Our Cultural & Travel Expertise
With Spanish, Portuguese, and Puerto Rican heritage, Danielle grew up in a culturally rich family influenced by generations of Hawaiian tradition. She finished her Hospitality Management degree in Ecuador, where she spent weekends exploring the country with a certain charming stranger she met at a college graduation party. The boy who first asked her to dance would later move to Mexico City for work, just as Danielle returned to Arizona to officially launch Joyful Journey Engagements.
For two years, they traveled every chance they could, meeting in new corners of the Americas and turning each reunion into a new adventure. One of those trips ended with a surprise proposal during an unforgettable 13 course dinner, marking the start of their life together as husband and wife, and as business partners at JJE.
For Felipe and Danielle, every trip has always been more than a vacation. It is a way to step out of your comfort zone, discover new flavors and traditions, and invest intentionally in the relationship you are building. That same passion for love, for exploration, and for the beauty that exists in the world is woven into every destination wedding we have the honor of planning.
Our team's shared background in travel, international work, and cultural fluency means we understand not just how to plan abroad, but how to create celebrations that incorporate and honor the heart of your chosen destination.
We recommend starting 2 years before your desired date, if possible, to secure the best venues, vendors, and travel rates.
However, we’ve also planned weddings in as little as a few months when timelines are limited!
Not necessarily. While an in-person visit can be helpful, we offer virtual venue tours, detailed vendor profiles, and photo/video walkthroughs to help you make confident decisions without traveling.
Every country has its own requirements, and we’ll guide you through the process, including paperwork, timelines, translations and any necessary appointments, to ensure your marriage is recognized both locally and back home.
That said, we are not lawyers and cannot provide legal advice. We will support you through the process, but it's important to consult with a legal professional if you have concerns about ensuring your paperwork is legally recognized abroad.
We’re bilingual in Spanish and English, which is particularly helpful when navigating the nuances of wedding industries in Latin America. We work with translators and bilingual vendors when needed, or collaborate with our team members that are fluent in other languages. We ensure all contracts, communications, and expectations are clear and accurate so you can focus on the fun details!
Absolutely! We can manage hotel blocks, recommend nearby lodging, arrange group transportation, and provide guests with curated travel recommendations so they feel confident from booking to check-out.
We offer two destination-specific packages: Wedding Coordination (for couples who’ve already done most of the planning) and Full Planning (for couples who want start-to-finish support). Each package is tailored with destination wedding needs in mind, and we can also create a custom partial planning option.
Yes! We love curating group activities, welcome dinners, farewell brunches, and other experiences that give guests a taste of the local culture and make the trip even more memorable.
